Face Masks

Applying a face mask was one of my favorite Sunday night activities. My mask of choice was the Queen Helene Mint Julep Masque that cost a whopping $5. This mask was my favorite until I looked at the ingredients, propylene glycol, sulfur, fragrance, methylparaben? I can't believe I used to put this on my skin! I still do a weekly face mask but now I make my own. Below are some of my favorites.

Turmeric Face Mask
1 tsp turmeric
1 tsp raw organic honey
1 tsp milk
Pour the turmeric in a bowl. Add the honey and then the milk. Mix ingredients together until you get a paste like consistency. You may need to add more or less milk to achieve the paste. Turmeric stains EVERYTHING so make sure the paste is thick and not going to drip off your face. Apply the paste and leave on until it dries, about 20 minutes. Wash off with water. Turmeric provides a great relief to aging skin. It helps stimulate new cell growth and helps keep the skin's elasticity intact. Turmeric and honey both contain lots of antioxidants as well as antibacterial properties. Milk contains lactic acid, which is a form of alpha hydroxy acid, the same ingredient in most chemical exfoliants. The lactic acid in milk brightens and exfoliates the skin. It also treats breakouts. Don't forget that turmeric stains! Make sure you are very cautious of your clothes and whatever else you come in contact with while using turmeric.

Bentonite Clay Mask
2 tbsp bentonite clay - Bentonite Clay
2 tbsp Apple cider vinegar
Before you start, it's important that you don't use metal utensils or mixing bowls when using bentonite clay. Mix the bentonite clay and apple cider vinegar together until well blended. The mask will be thick and have a mousse like texture. Apply to face and neck and let dry, about 15-20 minutes. Wash off with water. Bentonite clay draws impurities and toxins out of the skin. It heals and regenerates skin tissue, unclogs pores, exfoliates, prevents blackheads, treats acne, evens out skin tone, and leaves your skin feeling super soft. The apple cider vinegar helps clarify the skin. If you don't have any Apple cider vinegar, you can also do this mask with water.

Stay Gold Face Mask
If you prefer to buy one, this is what I would recommend Stay Gold Face Mask

Purifying Charcoal Mask
Beautycounter just came out with this mask. It's a mineral-rich mix of kaolin clay and charcoal. It exfoliates, draws out impurities, and soothes the skin. Purifying Charcoal Mask
